The Tech Stack For In-House Podcasting
Also: what happened to this newsletter + I've joined Nordigen
It’s been nine months since I sent the last of these “monthly” newsletters.
Such a long hiatus deserves a fresh start which I’ll also use as an excuse to explain that I haven’t been slacking off completely, and I’ve been busy with many other things instead.
Please allow me to re-introduce myself:
My name is George Aliferis, married, two kids - French, Greek, based in Brighton, UK
I worked in financial markets for over a decade. Then, about ten years ago, I decided to launch my agency and worked with many industries while avoiding the financial sector. That’s until I discovered fintech, got incredibly excited about it and decided to dedicate myself to connecting fintech to the world and pivoted the business accordingly.
Today I split my working hours between:
I’ve recently joined Nordigen, a provider of free Open Banking data and premium insights. My goal here is to educate startups about the possibilities offered by Open Banking (part-time, so I’m keeping my other hats)
Helping brands to maximise the impact of their audio and video content at Orama
Creating content on The Fintech Files podcast, the Fintechorama YouTube channel and courses.
What happened to this newsletter, and what can you expect in the future
It started as a “B2B Fintech Marketing” newsletter in January 2020. I posted regularly for 15 months, then stopped.
It needed a reset. Other stuff (see above) took over. I grew more interested in the actual technologies than how to market them, and I also came to reassess the role of marketing compared to product-driven distribution in SaaS.
Substack and newsletters in general, have transformed how I consume business content and do my research. I intend to find a new way to deliver valuable insights into your inbox. My first article was on video formats for B2B marketing. The concept also applies to newsletters. I’ll be working on it for the next instalment of this newsletter, which will be in 2022.
I think the content will be more targeted around:
Fintech and sub-topics that I’m mainly involved in: Investing, Wealth building, Open Banking
Practical, actionable advice from first-hand growth and marketing experiments (like the one below👇)
The Tech Stack For In-House Podcasting
Everyone can start a podcast, but it requires a diversified set of skills that not every fintech company will have in-house. It’s also a time-consuming activity where the ROI is not immediate. So you will need multiple tools or Tech Stack to keep it running smoothly and efficiently.
Since I started The Fintech Files podcast in 2020, I’ve continuously tweaked the tools and improved the workflow. It’s been a process of trial and error, but I’m now happy with the tools, which are almost all different from what I was using initially.
You don’t need to bring everything in house. Instead, you can outsource what is missing, and we/Orama produce podcasts for those who want to only focus on having conversations or part of the process. Here, for example, is episode 21 of “What the Fintech” produced for Fintech Futures.
You will notice video tools there as well. That’s because my podcast is, in fact, a vodcast. And yours should probably be a vodcast too, just like Goldman Sachs or Joe Rogan.
Most of the tools above have a free version, except:
Riverside: to record audio and video in HD (replaced Zoom)
Descript: The all-in-one editing tool, which has become central to my workflow
If you have any questions about setting up your podcast or considering whether you should be launching one, get in touch.
See you in 2022!
PS: If you’re involved or interested in Open Banking, we will be ramping up content, events and partnerships, as well as launching an exciting new product with Nordigen before the end of 2021.
